George Timms

Freelance Journalist

I’m a freelance journalist and writer based in Oxford, England specialising in sport and sustainability. Investigating overlooked stories where these fields merge, I write through a critical, solutions-oriented lens.

With a lifelong passion for sport and the natural world, I am driven by the power of sport as a social phenomenon to champion a sustainable future.

Writing for publications such as TIME and the Financial Times, I also produce content for high-profile sport organisations such as the International Olympic Committee and UEFA and have contributed to the Erasmus+ GAMES and BENCHES projects.

I was previously deputy editor of The Sustainability Report, a renowned media platform specialising in sport sustainability. I’ve also developed communications strategies for Pledgeball and TackleAfrica, worked as an editor for a book publisher, and analysed tactics for Spielverlagerung and Exeter City Football Club.

I graduated from the University of Exeter with a combined honours degree in geography and business management. I’ve also studied climate adaptation and sustainable cities at the University of Groningen, sustainable food production with the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, and participated in the School of Climate Change taught by University of Oxford professors.

I regularly attend events throughout Europe to moderate panel discussions and connect with sport and sustainability leaders, gaining insights into key opportunities and challenges in the sector.
